    Product Description

Millipore AFS-60 Water Purification Analyzer Feed System

Electrical Requirements: 120 Volts AC, 60 Hz, 3.5 Amps

    General Description:

Designed specifically for the clinical lab, the AFS-60 and AFS-60D systems are members of a new family of analyzer feed water purification systems. The systems produce NCCLS/CAP* Type I water from tap water for direct-feed to clinical analyzers. The purified water is suitable for constant temperature water baths, cuvette washing, reagent reconstitution, onboard serum dilution, and any other procedure which requires reagent water.

    Compact Systems
System components are housed in a single, compact unit that can be mounted on a bench, wall, or portable cart.

    Compliance with Rigorous International Standards
The AFS manufacturing plant complies with GMP* practices and is ISO 9001 certified. The AFS system is designed to UL, CUL, CE, and TUV for electrical and safety certifications and has FDA Class One Medical Device status. The water produced by the AFS systems meets NCCLS and CAP Type I and Type II reagent water specifications.

Systems Use Multiple Technologies to Produce Type I Water

The ROPAK™ Pretreatment Pack uses activated carbon and particulate pre-filtration to remove contaminants from tap water and extend the life of the reverse osmosis (RO) membrane. The ROPAK module also has a proprietary anti-scalant which prevents RO membrane scaling and virtually eliminates the need for a softener as pretreatment. The patented AFSPAK™ Purification Pack uses 100% nuclear grade, single-use ion exchange resin to remove the remaining traces of inorganic contaminants. The thin-film composite (TFC) RO membranes remove nearly all ionic contaminants, organic contaminants in excess of 100 molecular weight, and colloidal silica from water. A patented degassing technique (available with the AFS-60Dsystem, only) removes dissolved gases from the product water to prevent bubble formation in tubing, near optical sensors, and in water baths. The Millipak® final filter removes bacteria from product water.

    Quick, Easy Maintenance
ROPAK and AFSPAK expendables snap in and out easily without tools. The RO cartridges should be decontaminated monthly with a cleaning tablet. The cleaning cycle start up is a simple, push-button operation which takes only seconds to initiate. In some tap waters, the chlorine levels and/or the colloidal and particulate content are such that additional pretreatment is required. This is accomplished by means of external pretreatment housings and pre-filters. In this case, the pre-filters typically need to be changed every 1 to 4 months depending on feed water quality and amount of water used by the analyzer.

    System Features

The AFS-60 and AFS-60D produce purified water on demand. Automatic recirculation of water through the system during periods of non-use keeps water quality high and bacteria levels low. Automatic, periodic flushes of the RO membrane minimize bio-film accumulation. The AFS system has an optional collection and detection feature to ensure that water is completely confined in the unlikely event of a large leak or spill.

    Enhanced Electronics
The AFS is controlled by a microprocessor which allows for easy monitoring of system operation and water quality. Measurement of RO feed and permeate conductivity allows for monitoring of the percent ionic rejection of the RO membrane. This is a critical measurement because a drop in ionic rejection will decrease the life of the AFSPAK and increase operating costs. In most cases, simply initiating a cleaning cycle will restore RO membrane performance. By constantly monitoring RO membrane performance, the AFS-60 and AFS-60D help to minimize operating costs. Product water quality is monitored via a temperature compensated resistivity measurement. The user monitors system performance from a 4-line menu driven display. The cleaning cycles, as well as system display parameters and quality warning set points, are initiated from the user interface menus, as well as from system display parameters and quality warning set points. Audible alarms warn the user if any system performance parameter falls outside of the acceptable range.

Point-Of-Use Dispenser Option – Not Included – Maybe Added A unique Point-Of-Use Dispenser can be installed for remote dispensing of Type I water (the AFS60-D, only, provides degassed water) up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) from the AFS system. Small amounts of water can be drawn from the dispenser for other uses in the lab such as reagent reconstitution and preparation of standards.
