Simple to use, just put your fluid in, seal the port and test for vapour lock.
When you reach that temperature the indicator light will come on. The temperature range is 0-300 C / 0-572 F and used standard 117/220 VAC for power. It has a cover and is a compact self-contained unit.

However, there have been cases where Castrol has been asked by parties involved in inexplicable accidents to provide evidence on the condition of the brake fluid (the company is equipped to test for vapour lock as well as the condition of the fluid).
Says a spokesperson: "Judging from the results obtained overseas . . . some vehicles have never had the brake fluid changed from the day they left the factory."
A big problem is the fact that brake fluid is based on glycol ethers, which are strongly hydroscopic. As a result, it readily absorbs moisture from the atmosphere, which drastically reduces its vapour lock and boiling points. Another hazard is the modern car's high under-bonnet temperatures, which can quickly heat the brake fluid to vapour lock or boiling point. Turbochargers, catalytic exhaust systems and SA's high ambient temperatures also play a part. Castrol has tested vehicles pulling caravans and travelling through steep passes, and recorded brake fluid temperatures of 200deg C or more.

Placed between a measurement instrument and its power source the A6901 acts as an indirect grounding device, allowing floating measurements to be made with operator protection. When the isolated voltage exceeds 40 V Peak (28V RMS) the A6901 interrupts the power to the instrument, connects it to the power source grounding system and sounds an audible signal. The A6901 also tests for a functional ground between the power source and the instrument before the monitor goes into the isolation mode.

The Static Isolation Unit (SIU) is a two-channel device that protects sensitive sampling head input circuitry from harmful static discharge. The SIU is installed between the DUT (Device Under Test) and sampling head and is controlled by a foot switch. When the foot switch is in the normal position (not pressed), the DUT is grounded through a 50 ohm termination resistor. This will discharge any static charge stored in the DUT. Pressing the foot switch connects the DUT to the sampling head input allowing a measurement to be made. Both channels switch simultateously when the foot switch is pressed.

The SIU will NOT protect the sampling head input from static discharge while the foot switch is pressed. you MUST be grounded through a wrist strap or similar device.
