The Agilent 70909A RF section provides coverage from 100 Hz to 26.5 GHz. This RF section is used in the Agilent 71209A spectrum analyzer. Diode-pair mixing provides lower conversion loss, allowing the spectrum analyzer to have sensitivities that compete with fundamentally mixed designs. The sensitivity is also improved by the use of a built-in preamplifier before the first mixer (in the microwave path). For millimeter measurements, this RF section includes the extra switching and signals necessary to connect external mixers, including Agilent 11974 series preselected mixers. The Agilent 70909A Option Z40 makes use of this capability and integrates preselected mixing to 40 GHz. A switched LO is routed to the front panel for connection to an external mixer. Rear panel outputs include the 3 to 6.6 GHz LO, and IFs at both 321.4 and 21.4 MHz. Vector spans as wide as 7 MHz can be selected anywhere in the 2.65 GHz frequency range. A vector baseband mode is also available to provide all of the features and functionality of the Agilent 89410A. In vector RF mode, both phase and amplitude characteristics are captured in the time-series data. This information can be processed for narrow resolution spectrum analysis, AM/FM/PM demodulation, time selective analysis, vector modulation analysis (optional), and many other types of measurements.
