Hundreds of Hydras were used by Human Genome Project labs worldwide. It offered the advantages of low volume dispensing, large numbers of samples prepared and cost savings. Replacement parts are still readily available from ARI.
The Hydra microdispenser is a bench-top instrument providing high-speed, repetitive dispensing of microliter and nanoliter volumes into microplates, 96 samples at a time. The Hydra microdispenser features 96 glass syringes held in a fixed array. The array forms a horizontal X-Y grid that aligns each needle in the exact center of a well in a microplate. A precision motor assembly moves the plungers within the syringes up and down under microprocessor control, dispensing or aspirating liquids to or from microplates and other receptacles. The Hydra microdispenser has a motorized platform (a “tray table”) that allows you to position microplates and other labware under the syringe array to dispense or aspirate liquids. You program the Hydra microdispenser (using buttons on the front of the unit) to handle basic dispensing tasks, including fill, aspirate, dispense, wash, and empty.

Bendix Sling Psychrometer with Centigrade Psychometric Slide Rule
Relative humidity can be measured by an instrument called a hygrometer. The simplest hygrometer - a sling psychrometer - consists of two thermometers mounted together with a handle attached on a chain. One thermometer is ordinary. The other has a cloth wick over its bulb and is called a wet-bulb thermometer.

When a reading is to be taken, the wick is first dipped in water and then the instrument is whirled around. During the whirling, the water evaporates from the wick, cooling the wet-bulb thermometer. Then the temperatures of both thermometers are read.

If the surrounding air is dry, more moisture evaporates from the wick, cooling the wet-bulb thermometer more so there is a greater difference between the temperatures of the two thermometers. If the surrounding air is holding as much moisture as possible - if the relative humidity is 100% - there is no difference between the two temperatures. Meteorologists have worked out charts (included) of these differences for each degree of temperature so that the observer can find relative humidity easily. - Thank you NASA for the information.

We priced it as low as we did, because we do not know the wavelength, so we wanted to make it well worth the gamble for a University/Business to purchase it.
