This unit is a solid state electronic testing device that quickly shows the performance qualities of precision instrument ball bearings by analyzing and numerically displaying the vibrational characteristics.
The SmoothRator indicates the overall bearing quality which results from accuracy of manufacture and the surface finish of raceways and balls. It also detects major causes of bearing malfunctions such as contamination, raceway brinells, ball dents, and other raceway surface imperfections.
While not a torque-tester, the SmoothRator produces test results that indicate usefulness of bearings for exacting gyro gimbal, synchro and other low torque applications.
